About Splenda
Splenda traces back to sucralose, a no-calorie sweetener developed in the 1970s and approved for U.S. use in 1998, with the Splenda brand launching in 1999. Its current owner, Heartland Food Products Group, has an unusual history with the brand: founded by Ted Gelov in 1991, Heartland became the first company to produce a private-label sucralose sweetener in 2004, competing directly with Splenda, before acquiring the Splenda brand itself in 2015 alongside investor Centerbridge Partners. The company's corporate office sits in Carmel, Indiana.
The Splenda line has grown well beyond its original sucralose packets to include stevia, monk fruit and allulose-based zero-sugar sweeteners, a baking blend formulated to measure and brown like sugar, and a coffee creamer line.
