About Contigo
Contigo is a Chicago-based drinkware brand built around a single idea: a mug that seals itself between sips. Its parent company, Ignite USA, engineered the patented AUTOSEAL push-button lid to deliver on that, and the innovation carried the brand to a leadership position in the thermal and hydration beverageware category, selling in more than 50 countries. In 2014, Newell Rubbermaid (now Newell Brands) acquired Ignite's Contigo and Avex brands for $308 million, with Contigo's own net sales reaching roughly $125 million that year -- a deal North Castle Partners and Newell both credited to the brand's product quality, design, and technical innovation.
Under Newell Brands, the current lineup spans water bottles, travel mugs, tumblers, kids' bottles, barware, and accessories, built around a handful of named lid technologies -- AutoSeal, SnapSeal, AutoPop, and DualSip -- each solving the seal-versus-convenience tradeoff a different way. That range of engineering is what we found testing the West Loop and Byron mugs ourselves: two different lid mechanisms, two different jobs, both built around the same core promise of not leaking in a bag or a cup holder.

Why we recognized Contigo
The Brew Gazette Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Contigo earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, brewed with daily, and judged on what lands in the cup.
Contigo products we rated highly
Contigo West Loop 3.0 Stainless Steel Insulated Travel Mug 16 oz
The AUTOSEAL push-button lid is a genuine one-handed drinking mechanism: press it to sip, release and it seals itself automatically, so it stays leakproof between sips without any twisting or flipping, which stands out for anyone drinking behind the wheel. Contigo rates it at 11 hours hot and 24 hours cold, and in our testing it held heat well for a 16-ounce mug. The slim base fits standard car cup holders and slides under most single-serve brewers, and it's backed by more than 58,000 owner reviews at a 4.6 average.

Contigo Byron Vacuum-Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Mug 20 oz
The SnapSeal flip lid closes to a complete seal rather than merely resisting spills, so it can go in a bag or backpack next to a laptop without a second thought. Contigo's THERMALOCK vacuum insulation keeps coffee hot for around five hours in a full 20-ounce capacity, and the mug is BPA-free throughout. More than 44,000 owner reviews at a 4.5 average back its reliability.

- Two products among our top picks in the same Brew Gazette roundup, each solving a different real-world problem: the West Loop 3.0's self-sealing AUTOSEAL button for one-handed use in the car, and the Byron's SnapSeal flip lid for going in a bag.
- A deep, independently verified review base: more than 58,000 owner reviews at a 4.6 average on the West Loop 3.0 and more than 44,000 at a 4.5 average on the Byron, among the largest review counts of any insulated mug we tested.
- The AUTOSEAL lid is a patented Contigo technology built specifically to seal automatically between sips, the engineering idea the company was founded on and has kept refining across its mug and bottle lines.
- A documented track record outside of Amazon: Newell Rubbermaid (now Newell Brands) acquired Contigo's parent company for $308 million in 2014, citing the brand's product quality, design, and technical innovation, with Contigo products sold in more than 50 countries.
- A genuinely differentiated lid lineup -- AutoSeal, SnapSeal, AutoPop, and DualSip -- so the brand offers a real mechanism choice rather than a single design stretched across every product.
