About Lavazza
Lavazza traces back to 1895, when Luigi Lavazza bought a small grocery store in Turin, Italy that also sold coffee, and opened an artisanal roastery in the historic city center. He is credited with pioneering the concept of coffee blending -- combining beans from different growing regions to balance flavor -- and was among the first roasters to use oil-proof packaging that kept beans fresh and carried his family name. Luigi Lavazza SpA was formally founded in 1927, and four generations later the company remains family-run, still headquartered in Turin. Lavazza Group now operates in more than 140 countries, with nine manufacturing plants across five countries, and its brand portfolio includes Carte Noire, Merrild, and Kicking Horse alongside the flagship Lavazza name.
Super Crema, the whole-bean blend we feature, is Lavazza's signature Arabica-Robusta espresso coffee -- the Robusta component is what throws the thick, long-lasting crema the blend is named for. On our own cupping table it comes through as hazelnut, brown sugar, and a mild honeyed sweetness with very low acidity, a profile that stays approachable whether it is pulled as a straight shot or brewed on a drip machine. It is also, by a wide margin, the most-reviewed whole-bean coffee we track on Amazon, giving it a depth of buyer track record that few other beans in our roundups can match.

Why we recognized Lavazza
The Brew Gazette Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Lavazza earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, brewed with daily, and judged on what lands in the cup.
Lavazza products we rated highly
Lavazza Super Crema Whole Bean Coffee
In our testing for our coffee beans roundup, Super Crema stood out as the most-reviewed whole-bean coffee we track on Amazon, with tens of thousands of buyers behind a consistently strong average. The Arabica-Robusta blend reads as hazelnut, brown sugar, and honeyed sweetness with very low acidity, and it's versatile enough to pull a creamy espresso shot or brew smooth from a drip machine out of the same bag.

Lavazza Super Crema Whole Bean Coffee
For our dedicated espresso beans review, Super Crema pulled a reliable shot across every machine type we tested, from a semi-automatic to a super-automatic hopper to a stovetop moka pot. The touch of Robusta throws a thick, golden, long-lasting crema that pure-Arabica beans struggle to match, and the low-acid, honeyed cup stays forgiving even with a slightly-off grind or dose.
