About Hario
Hario was founded in Tokyo, Japan, in 1921 as a heatproof glass manufacturer, and the name itself is a statement of that identity: it comes from the Japanese words for glass and king, meaning "the King of Glass." The company started out producing laboratory glassware -- beakers, flasks, petri dishes -- before developing its own proprietary heat-resistant glass formula and expanding into household items, including its original coffee siphon. Hario remains the only heatproof-glass manufacturer in Japan that still melts and forms its own glass in a company-owned factory, a materials pedigree that predates its coffee equipment by decades. Hario USA, Inc. was established in December 2014 to serve the North American market directly.
