About Takeya
Takeya USA was co-founded in 2008 by American entrepreneur John Lown and Japanese innovator Hiroshi Taketani, building on the parent Takeya company's multi-decade history of precision manufacturing in Japan. The company is headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, and describes its mission as inspiring healthy choices through hydration-focused products while working to cut down on single-use plastic waste. In 2025, John Sanchez was named President and CEO, with co-founder Lown transitioning to Chairman.
Takeya built its US reputation on insulated stainless steel water bottles and, since 2015, the ThermoFlask line, before extending that hydration-first engineering into kitchen products like the Deluxe Cold Brew Coffee Maker. Its signature feature, a patented airtight, leak-proof lid, is the same category of design problem the bottle business was built on: keeping a seal reliable under daily handling. On Amazon, that cold brew pitcher has accumulated one of the largest owner-review counts of any product in its category, which lines up with what we found testing it ourselves -- a lid that survives being knocked around a packed fridge instead of leaking everywhere.

Why we recognized Takeya
The Brew Gazette Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Takeya earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, brewed with daily, and judged on what lands in the cup.
Takeya products we rated highly
Takeya Deluxe Cold Brew Coffee Maker, 1 Quart
The patented airtight, leakproof lid is what makes this a standout -- it holds a seal even laid on its side in a packed fridge or shaken hard mid-steep to agitate the grounds, which is the single most common failure point in this whole category. The built-in fine-mesh filter runs the full length of the pitcher rather than sitting in a shallow cup, so grounds stay evenly suspended through a 12 to 24 hour steep instead of packing into a dense plug at the bottom. Shatter-proof BPA-free Tritan construction means it survives being dropped or knocked off a fridge shelf, and it carries the deepest owner-review record of any cold brew maker we evaluated: more than 67,000 ratings at a 4.6 average, evidence the design holds up over years of daily use rather than one summer.

- One of the products we rated highest in Brew Gazette's cold brew testing, standing out against glass, stainless-tap, and dual-filtration competitors on the strength of its lid and filter design.
- The deepest owner-review record of any cold brew maker in our roundup -- more than 67,000 ratings at a 4.6 average -- a track record none of the other brewers we tested come close to matching.
- A patented airtight, leakproof lid, a real engineering differentiator over the plain screw-top or clip lids most cold brew pitchers ship with.
- Shatter-proof BPA-free Tritan construction, a deliberate choice for the format most likely to get knocked around a packed refrigerator daily, versus the glass bodies common elsewhere in the category.
- Built by a company with a multi-decade manufacturing heritage in Japan and a US operation, headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, since 2008, with a stated mission around hydration and reducing single-use plastic.
