Mount Hagen has been roasting and freeze-drying organic coffee since 1986, run by the German company Wertform GmbH out of Hamburg. The brand takes its name from the coffee-growing highlands around Mount Hagen in Papua New Guinea, where it sources single-origin Arabica beans alongside coffee from Peru and Ethiopia. Every product carries USDA Organic and Fairtrade certification, sourced from small growing cooperatives rather than large industrial plantations.
In the US, Mount Hagen sells its coffee as glass jars, resealable pouches, and individually sealed single-serve sticks, across regular, decaf, and instant espresso lines. Freeze-drying rather than spray-drying is central to the brand's process, intended to preserve an aroma that spray-dried instant coffee tends to lose.
